The following letter is from William. H. Latham to Messrs. Mv lt;fc A. L. Binghanu Esqrs.“The pedigree of these animals can be traced back for forty years il necessary, and they have been bred with the greatest care The Herefords have been more successful in winning prises at the Sraithfiehl show than any other breed, a history of which I will give you as soon as I have gained all the information on the subject, so that it cannot be dis puled, ‘'Fad* art stubborn thingsand when the public know the true value of the Herfords, they will begin to appreciate themCalves from them generally come small, which is the case with nearly all animals that are well bred. They generally look rather inferior animals until two years old. ' then they begin to show their ‘true points* and their value, and they will como to mar ket at three years old, as rife as anv other ■ breed in existence, with less food, and will J fetch the righest price per pound. 1 have said enough in many previous articles in the Cultivator and Agricultoralist. about the milking qualtiiies ol this breed, (no other 1 point 1 believe has ever been denied.) Isay 1 again, that I gave a challenge, to milk ten cows against any ten cows for butter of any 5 other diat net breed in the United States, and should have been glad to have been accepted; to have given positive proof ol their excellence in this particular, 1 have but fourteen cowa and heifers left, or 1 would he willing to give that challenge now. nor would I back out ol any other breed, or will *'throw down the glove, I had rather accept than 1 challenge, Experience a nd occular demon- * stration, will prove that the Hereford arc wo humbug, and that they can maintain their high standing.1 am fully convinced in iny own mind that there are no better, butter, beef and working cattle, iu the world, no cattle so easily kept.”*1 am. dear -S*ir,Yours most respectfully.W, H.
