By Wat Takeshita Two movie theaters, a savings and loan and a restaurant have leased space in the Washington Square Shopping Center in Petaluma at South McDowell Boulevard and East Washington Street. Washington Square Cinemas I and II, Petaluma’s first twin movie thea ters, will open on Aug. 1. Each will seat 260 and have complete snacks and refreshments in the 6,000 square feet of space. The twin theaters will be managed by Sinematic Corp., which also manages several other theaters in Northern California. Financial Savings Loan Associa tion, formerly known as Redwood Empire Savings Loan, will open its Washington Square office in Sep tember. A subsidiary of Financial Federation Inc., Financial Savings is headquartered in Chico and has eight offices. The Petaluma branch will have a staff of five, larger than normal safety deposit boxes, and walk-up window for after-hours service. Smorgabob’s family-style restau rant has leased 6,500 square feet in Washington Square for an ‘‘all-you can-eat’’ restaurant to open in Octo ber. The restaurant will seat 250 and be the eighth in the Smorgabob chain. Smorgabob’s will be open daily for lunch from 11 to 3 and for dinner from 4 to 9 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m. Royal Mandarin restaurant, spe cializing in Hunan and Czechwan dishes, opened during the weekend at 234 Northgate One in Terra Lin da, the former location of Lin Fa restaurant. The family-style restaurant, owned by Peter Tien, is open seven days a week — for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday and for dinner on Sunday. Restaurant hours are 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. weekdays and until 10 p.m. on weekends. The adjoining cocktail lounge is open until midnight weekdays and until 1 a.m. weekends. The Royal Mandarin plans to add picnic lunches for takeout in a couple of week. Tien is the former owner of Man darin House at 1559 Fourth Street in San Rafael, which he sold last month to Nathaniel Y. H. Fu from Taiwan. Moen’s House of Fashion, a new shop featuring domestic and import ed casual wear at Loch Lomond Shopping Center in San Rafael, an nounced a get-acquainted sale start ing this week and continuing for about a month. It is located at 680 Point San Pedro Road next to Loch Lomond Pharmacy. Owner Harry Moen carries mostly domestic name-brand casual cloth ing and some imports from coun tries like Guatemala and Greece. The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday (closed Monday) from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. A new flower shop called Lothar’s Flowers Etc. replaced the former Flowers Etc. at 140 Bon Air Shop ping Center in Greenbrae. Laurence R. Guidi of San Anselmo closed the old shop at the end of last month with an auction sale of his inventory and fixtures. Owner of Lothar’s Flowers is Lothar W. Sabrowski of Larkspur, who worked at Guidi’s shop for the past five-and-a-half years. Lothar’s is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with fresh cut flowers, fresh and dry flower arrangements, blooming and green plants, and flowers for various occa sions such as weddings and funerals. Le Chateau restaurant at 4500 Redwood Highway in San Rafael, at Highway 101 and Lucas Valley Road, is back in business after a week’s closing and vacation for own ers Joseph and Nadine Lauper, who have operated it for three-and-a-half years. Mrs. Lauper said the restau rant was closed last week for repa neling and re-cleaning. It is open every day except Sunday. Richard Oakley of Motivational Consultants Inc., San Francisco, will lead an all-day workshop to be presented by the San Rafael Cham ber of Commerce on July 22 at the San Rafael Com munity Center, 618 B Street. “Whatever one’s avocation, be it small business, salesman, execu tive, housewife, or student, this will be the most excit ing and valuable workshop the chamber has offered this year,’ said Richard P. Bush, executive vice president of the San Rafael Chamber. Called a ‘‘personal inven tory workshop,” the session will last from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is termed a “step beyond positive thinking.”’ The cost is $35 including lunch and all materials. Red Carpet Realtors, Novato, an nounced the association of Kenneth A. O’Dell, who joined the Novato office after three-and-a-half years with Red Carpet, Realtors in San Rafael. O’Dell is a licensed real estate broker and an honorary mem ber of both the Operating Engineers and Machinists Union. Edward Ratner of Terra Linda last week joined Joseph Pedett Ad vertising in San Francisco as an account supervisor. Ratner was formerly with Korchnoy-Ratner Ad vertising and Grey Advertising in New York before moving to San Rafael three years ago. Harvey’s Lunches, a mobile cater ing truck that serves business estab lishments in Sausalito and Mill Val ley, is now operated by a new owner, Peter Jaber of Novato. Jaber, who sold his grocery and liquor store in San Francisco last February after 25 years, bought Harvey's Lunches this week from Charles and Routh Peloquin of San Rafael. Jack Younger of Jack Younger Insurance Agency in San Rafael completed a week's advance agency management conference at Clare mont Men's College, conducted by the Independent Insurance Agents Association of California.
