LIFEGUARDS RESCUE GIRL FROM RIPTIDEOver 1000 On Beach Last SundayAccording to Jim Eacutt, headlifeguard and Robin Coker lifeguard on duty at North Beach, more people took advantage of the cool Pacific Breezes Sunday rather than Friday the Fourth.“I never saw the beach so crowded,” said Eacutt- “There must have been well over a thousand people on this beach Sunday afternoon. It reminded me of Coney Island,” he added.“We were particularly lucky over the week end when only one person, an 18 year old girl, was caught in a rip tide and made it necessary to send' the boat out after her. She was a good swimmer and managed to keep above water until the boat rescued her,” Eacutt said.“We administered first aid to a number of persons during the day but not a single case of seriousinjury. The flag signal system of warning swimmers when a rip tide is coming in worked very successfully. When the current is tricky a yellow flag is raised, when the water is safe a blue one is used. W hen rip tide is coming a red flag is displayed on the lookout tower.
