What the people desire is ample buildings and teachers for the education of the many children who are seeking the opportunity. Albemarle County is sadly in need in this direction.—ScottaviUe ('ww'cr.We are opposed to compulsory education on principle, believing that if the State furnishes the means that there will be few if any parents or guardians who will neglect the opportunity to educate their children. But were we an ardent advocate of compulsory education on principle, we would strenuously oppose it in this State, under present conditions; and we hope its members will be wide awake and not allow an educational Force Bill to be gum-shoed through our next General Assembly. Office holders, thirsting for power and ambitious for display, may clamor for compulsory education, but the people, who prefer to be free, don’t want a Force Bill, even under the disguise of education.
