PROCEEDINGS WILL BEGIN AT ONCE. The City Water Works Will Be Extended and New Wells’ Drilled Chemists’ Re ports Not Recognized Authority. ‘The water analysis made some the age have been received, and what was hoped to be decided thereby has proved to be a base delusion. ‘The analysis of the two chemists, Prof. W.W. Daniells, of Madison, and Prof. E.G. Smith, of Beloit, cannot be compared in a single instance and are most dissatisfactory to the council, and questions the com petency of one or both. The water’ analyzed was taken from the Deininger well, the Davis well, the county farm and the Lodges spring. The parts of ehloring differ widely. A meeting of the council was called at 2 o’clock this afternoon to decide on the matter. W. EL. Wheeler, owner of the plant, was present and made several practical suggestions, is said he has contemplating improvements for a long time. Ile is not satisfied with the chemists’ reports and fn better water can be obtained he is willing to make the test. Ile wants to get a good quality and supply of water and thinks the best way to do it is to drill down into the sand stone. He will admit to any reasonable proposition even to re moving the plant if it is found neces sary. If he found a good quality he would put in three wells and erract a reservoir at the plant for emergency and use the standpipe for daily cer BuMiption. The water was satisfactory when the well was limited and after five years comes the complaint. He is willing to proceed at once and wanted the co-operation of the council or a committee therefrom to proceed in a satisfactory manner. He wants to perform this part of the contract and thought it would be to the interest of the citizens to have the council act with him. The matter was discussed and finally it was decided that the council accom pany him this afternoon and if it sees fit, to appoint a committee of three to act with Mr. Wheeler in the matter, the same will be done. The water works question has created considerable warm in this city, and many have said, needless alarm. It was hoped a decision could be reveked by the report of the chemists, but it seems impossible to base on their reliability. However this may be the council and Mr. Wheeler have agreed to get the heat water possible and it is hoped their efforts will be satisfactory.
