An extract from the official report, addressed to the Home Secretary, of Mr. Leonard Horner, Factory Commissioner, which has been just published by the order of the House of Commons.“ In my report dated the 23rd of January, 1844, /“ stated that in the year 1843 /fore had been in my dis-(t trict 117 instances of new investments of capital in fac-“ iories, either in new mills or additions to mills, or new “ occupants of mills which have been for some time unten-“ anted, or rooms, previously unoccupied, recently Jilted *' with new machinery. In 16 months, from the 1st Jan-“ nary, 1844, to the 30th April, 1845, there have been ** 220 new investments of capital in similar ways. In (t these 220 cases there are 51 new buildings, quite new ** factories from the foundation, with steam power to theamount of 1,625 horses.—There are additional engines.
