Warren Junior Military Band performing European tourWARREN—Area youths aremaking music half-way around the world right now.The members of the Warren Junior Military Band are participating in the International Youth Music Festival, in Zurich, Switzerland this week. The band has been selected as the official, and only, host United States band.The “year of music” is being celebrated in Europe this year, with 54 groups from 22 countries participating. More than 3,000 musicians from all over the world will gather to celebrate in the festive Zurich setting.The Junior Military Band will travel to Innsbruck, Austria; Salzburg, Munich and Strausbourg,Germany; Paris, France; and Brussels, Belgium where they will perform several concerts. The band will conclude their trip by participating in the “World Music Festival,” in Kerkrade, Netherlands, July 17 and 28.The band will return to Warren July 31.Two weeks before the band’s formal send-off on July 5 for the European tour, the band returned from Wisconsin and Illinois performances with top honors. Hurrelbrink, affectionately known as “Squire” since 1956. He has been the director for the past 55 years.
