100 Years Ago ASHFIELD — George William Curtis has arrived for the summer at his home, whither his family preceded him from New York several weeks ago. 30 Years Ago Greenfield Miss Katherine Flemming of Congress Street is spending a week in Springfield. John Simons of High Street is enter taining a party of six Greenfield boys at Jolly Island, Lake Winnipesaukee. In the party is Myron Warner, Gale Flint, Wil liam Sauter, Dudley Woodard, Robert Burrage, and Gerald Palmer. Mr. Si mons has conducted the camping party for several years and the event is looked to every summer by the youngsters who have previously made the trip. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Woodard and son, Austin, paid the boys a visit last Sunday and were royally entertained. B. S. Michelman, I. Michelman and Miss Ruth Michelman of Brooklyn, N. Y., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Michelman of Federal Street. Ashfield Gilbert Gardner was taken to Dickin son Hospital, Friday night, minus a thumb and three fingers of his left hand, lost while handling a stick of dynamite. Mr. Gardner is assistant manager at W. A. Sharp Son, grain mill Supt. of Schools Millard C. Moore, wife and daughter, have gone to Indian Island for a vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Smith and two children of Orange are guests of Willis Turner and wife. Millers Falls Frances Kelly of Dorchester is at Frank Dorsey’s farm for the summer. Charles Wright of Springfield visited Mrs. Theo C. Aitken, Sunday. David Corey of West Rutland, Vt., is visiting Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Lunney. 25 Years Ago Greenfield Dana Darling of 6 Bowker Street soared 69 miles from Elmira, N. Y., to a point near Lyons yesterday, the second day of the 15th national glider soaring contest. Darling broke his previous record of 45 miles set in 1939, when he won the Wight man trophy and $50 in cash. Darling tied his former record on the first day of the meet when he placed fifth in the field after scaring 45 miles. Andrew Walt and his committee will be in charge of an outdoor Rotary Club meeting Wednesday afternoon starting at 3 at the camp of Alex Gamelin at Lake Wyola. Northfield Farms Matt Strom of Springfield spent his vacation last week with his brother-in law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Brown. Members of Mrs. Alice Billings’ kin dergarten class had a party at school yesterday morning in honor of Martha Luey’s fourth birthday. A frosted cake with four candles made by her mother, Mrs. Barbara Luey of Millers Falls, was served. Warwick Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Tatro of Gardner, who have been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Carey, celebrated their second wedding anniversary and are now spending two weeks with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Cirtwell of Utica, N.
