FREE'S... on t or over halfWhen the 1925 Chevrolet (pictured) came on the market, Chevys were well on the way towards being- the nation’s No. L choice of car buyers and Tuffrec Chevrolet of Green Mountain was seven years old. Tuffree's has been on the winning- Chevrolet team ever since.John Tuftiee, father of Dclmar Tuffree, opened his Chevrolet dealership at Crcon Mountain in 101 S. He soon established a name for fair dealing and the agency grew and flourished. Car buyers came from a wid-area including the city of Marshalltown to deal with John. When he died in 1964 at the age of 76, he was one of the oldest Chevrolet dealers in the state.Dclmai s start in the car business was as a mechanic in his fathers garage. That was in'1933. He continued to work as a mechanic until the early ’50s at which time he assumed some of the management chores as well as sales work for the family firm. In 1958 Delmar became the Green Mountain dealer.Two years later, in October of 1960, Delmar moved the agency to Traer. He brought his tools and equipment with him and moved into the building at the south edge of town in which the business is still located. The building had housed Chevrolet dealerships up until a few months- before Tuffrec moved. It was built in 1917 by the late George Cavalier. . '. - ....... IIV.- H.wvai LU unvn.
