Bernice M. GrovesDied July 4,1969Funeral services for Mrs. Jesse (Bernice) Groves, 07, were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, 1909, in the United Methodist Church in Rippey. The Rev. John Nye, pastor of the United Methodist Church at Batavia, spoke words of comfort. Keith Sutton, accompanied by Mrs. Eldon Kinsman, sang “How GreatThou Art.”John Dorris, Bob MeCuen, Car-ville Scharingson, Lee Dorris ]a\-Verne Groves and Burr Glidden were casket bearers. Interment was in the Rippey Cemetery, Rippey, Iowa.Bernice Marie Groves, daughter of O. D. and Feme Kendall Miller, was born August 20, 1901, inBoone, Iowa. From there she later moved with her parents to Ames,Iowa, to live for a short time. She then made her home in Jefferson, where she grew to womanhood.On October 1, 1919, in Jefferson, Iowa, Bernice was united in marriage with Jesse Lee Groves at the parsonage of the Rev. Mr. Wills. To this union two daughters and one son were born. After their marriage the couple moved to the Rippey vicinity where they have since lived.Bernice was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 527, and the Royal Neighbors, all in Rippey, and the World War 1Veteran’s Auxiliary in Jefferson, of which she was presently serving as president.Mrs. Groves passed away July 4, 19(59, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, Jesse of Rippey: two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Wilcox of Jefferson and Mrs. Charles (Donna) Lane of Manhattan, Illinois; one son, Jerry L. of Rippey; one brother, Donald Miller of Newhall, California; six grandchildren: Mrs. Jerry(Diane) Blackburn of Jefferson; Jeffery, Bonnie and Judy Lane of Manhattan, Illinois, and Teresa and Patricia Groves of Rippey; onegreat-grandchild, Kevin Blackburn;other relatives and a host of friends.ii:II1I11IiI1
