A list of the proposed street name changes to be presented to the council is attached to this article.iWORK STARTS FRIDAYMr. Blocker said this morning that immediate action on the renumbering had been delayed pending the receipt of the notification forms which will be given to residents in every building as the survey progresses, and which will comprise formal notice of the numerical change to be made. These forms were received today, and in the morning a staff of engineers will undertake the work. The complete revision to the new system is expected to be finished in September.Considered with, other similar movements pending, when the Hammond renumbering is complete the sam© system will prevail over the entire North township and in contiguous territories in Cook county,111., such as Calumet City and South Chicago. *This entire movement may be interpreted only as another bond drawing North township close into one city, and furthering the cause of eventual amalgamation of the five municipalities in the township. The street system adopted in the council ordinance a.t the suggestion of a joint committee, which spent three years in preparing the comprehensive plan, is the so-called block system, used ip, practically all major cities over the country. In every regulation block, 600 feet will be assigned 100 numbers, the odd on the north and east sides of the street, and the even on the west and | furthei south. Every mile will consume S00 numbers.CHICAGO SYSTEMHammond’s new system will practically carry out into Indiana the uniformity of the Chicago numbering plan, which is used in Calumet City, and partially in both East Chicago and Whiting. It is understood that within the next few months, Whiting, East* Chicago, Highland and Munster will undertake a similar revision of their street systems, both as to names and numbers, and thus make the entire township a complete unit in its street system. The zero points in the Hammond plan will be at 106th street, the northwest tip of the city, and at the state line from the lake to the Little Calumet river. The first number'south from 106th street will be 600, .the only difference relative to the Chicago system being that the 10 is dropped. Numbers in the 106th street block in Chicago start at 10600. Numbers starting at thestate line will be zero, and will progress to the east 100 numbers to the block.According to the present Hammond city boundaries, the highestthe expendi in the depai predicted.Records ii ditor Archil that, the to funds amoupresent tinrThe depa; than $22,00 coming froi gasoline ta “Never in highway de] ofd been es progr ss, I one coimac the state a was not sc before Sept “Although that the stlt; its bills, th not. permit the money i “It is my but a short balance is ■ Un employ of field ii: employed b other poss from the lt;year’s i-rog When the i e d, B r o w nWO](Continued on Pagr Six)o wnn/iEM a orINDIANA A petition of Dreyfus casions sen trie chair c the murder man, will I Supreme cc James M.
