The fire originated in a very peculiar manner, and in all probability it is the only case of the kind on record. Mr. Prootor'siolks were cleaning house that day and had placed a loaded shotgun unde thebod where it would be out of the way. Tn moving some of the things near the bed the stock ofthe gun was struck which caused the hammer to catch in the carpet, discharging the gun. The load entered and ignited a jug of coloil which was standing in a-bout a foot of the muzzle. In a few seconds the room was a roaring furnace- Mrs. Proctor was severely burned in attempting toextinguish the fire, Nothing was saved, even the money in the house being consumed.
