W. Rarksdalo, of the Tobacco Leaf stall’, which was indeed a literary treat, and its delivery elicited hearty applause. Next came the reading of the “Rainbow Review,” a journal gotten up by the club, by Miss Jennie Keesee, and just here your correspondent would say that though the “Review” contained many able productions and sparkled with the brightest witticisms, yet its chief charm lay in the manner in which it was read. Atter this the summons to dinner caused a suspension of the programme and the pic-nickers turned from a literary least to lie regaled, physically, by a most bountiful supply of almost every variety of substantial food, supplemented by such a feast of choicest delicacies as would have tickled the palate of a god. For this elegant dinner many thanks are duo to the young ladies of the “Rainbow Club.” The afternoon was taken up with extempore speeches, election of officers for ensui ng year, and best of all, that harmonious and friendly intercourse which so delights the congenial spir’ts of both sexes. About 5 i*. m., the crowd started back to Howell, which point they reached at 0 o’clock, and in a few minutes were speeding along towards Clarksville, leaving behind them a pleasant impression and the special good wishes of those of this vicinity who attended tiie “Rainbow picnic.” May the “Rainbow Club” continue in acourse of uninterrupted success, and may it live to celebrate very many more anniversaries of its organization. On last Friday night the members of “McKenzie Kirk,” Rouiiottstown, gave a supper for the benefit ot thoir church. A largo crowd was present, a bountiful supper spread and a “good time generally” was enjoyed by all who were there. Taking an averago of the diHcront estimates of size of crowd, your reporter supposed about two hundred to have been presont, which number would liavo made the receipts about 150.00.
