Indications of an Extensive Field in Washington Territory. Jamestown Journal. From the Tacoma, W. T. Nemsta taken the item which will be found below relative to the new oil field in the northwest, a short distances from Tacoma, Messia, Neeland Bros., of Bolivar, Allegany county, N. Y., are largely interested in the enterprise of developing the territory, and having made a thorough aanalysis of the sure face prospect, they find it to be sO per cent. pure amber petroleum The president of the company, L. F. Thompson, was formerly of this region and has numerous relatives living here now. The Neros says nas follows: Between Sumner and Orting, on the north side of the Puyallup river, on the lands of the Tacoma oil company petroleum rises to the surface of the ground, and in numerous places can be seen floating on the surface of the water, which flows from springs. Its existence was known several yes ago, but those who saw it did not know what it was and took no trouble to investigate it. At several points the oli is easily collected from the surface of the water with a spoon or woolen cloth. When peperated from the water it is a greenish brown color, semi-fluid in consistence, and has a peculiar odor, like the “Saneca oil which was found in all drug stores forty years agco. About three years ago an effort was made in the direction of prospecting this field for oil, but the scheme fell through. Last year another attempt of the same kind failed to materialize. Now @ company has been organized for the same purpose. who give out, they mean business. ‘The capital stack is $1,000,000, divided into 40,000 shares of $25 each. Its officers are: President, L. F. Thompson; Vice President, W. B. Kelly; Secretary, W. H. Fife; Treasurer, J. W. Sprague. The com pany propose to put down one or more wells, and say that the work of boring will be commenced in a few weeks. The whole Puget Sound country will await the results with much interest. Experts from Pennsylvania, oil fields who have examined the country near Elki, declare that the prospects for obtaining a flow of vilarom im well in that section is as good as, they ever saw, after an extended sexperience. The band of directors for the first six months are L. E F. Thompson, David Lister, W. B. Kelly, J. W. Sprague and W. H. Fife.
