Mr. Joe Easterling, while walking ontlio beach at South [aland a few days ago, saw a large salt water alligator Iy- | ing on the aaud. Taking out Ins pistol he tired two sbotw-fctit, apparently with- j out effect. Approaching within a foot ■ or two of the alligator, he then prepared 1 to fire a third shot into its head. As he pointorl the pistol, the alligator opened its month and snapped at b»s hand. Tbo i (dosing teoth just grated Mr. Easter- j ling’s lingers and the pistol disappeared in the alligator's mpuih from which it was recovered otly after cutting off its head and forcing open the jaws.
