Margaret Stewart Baum has been appointed coordinator of voluntary activities for the Big Spring State Hospital, effective Sept. 1. Dr. Preston E. Harrison, superintendent, an nounced Saturday. Mrs. Baum has been active in civic, club and music work in this area for the past 10 years. A native of Beaumont, she was graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a bachelor of science in piano, and with a double minor in English and speech. While on campus, she was president of the junior division of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs, president of the junior class, and as a senior, president of the student body. She was named to Who's Who in American Colleges. Prior to her marriage in 1960 in Midland to Jim Baum, she was continuity director for KCRS in Midland, and after that for two years on the society desk for the Midland Reporter- Telegram. Since living in Big Spring she has maintained a class of private piano students, has served as choir director for St. aul’s Presbyterian Church, and as interim choir director at Goliad Junior High. She also has written educational scripts for Creative Visuals at Gamco, Inc. Mrs. Baum also is a member of the Big Spring Music Study Club, the 1955 Hyperion Club and the College Heights PTA. She and her husband, Jim Baum, manager of KBYG, live with their four children — Jim, Bill, Laura, and Douglas — at 1000 FE. 20th. The family has membership at First United Methodist Church.
