Brandon Men Who Were Swept Out Into Lake Beach Shore Ex hausted—Were Wearing Bath ing Suits—Receiving Shelter at Canon Matheson's Cottage OAK POINT, Man., July 7.—J. J. Milledge, Manager of the Union Bank, Brandon, and John Hines, manager of the Hanbury Hardware company, of the same place, were found this morn ing about eight o'clock in a small shack in the marsh, about eight miles north of Oak Point by William Har disty and Fred Hackland. Wear Only Bathing Suits These men drifted from Delta, Man., in a row boat about 11 o'clock Sun day morning, with nothing on but bathing suits. With only one oar and a strong southwest wind, they were carried out into the lake and drifted north until about 8 o'clock Monday afternoon, when the wind changed to the northwest, and drove them to shore, landing them about five o'clock Monday afternoon, drifting thirty hours. When found they were in an exhausted condition from long expos ure from the cold and lack of food. Their first meal was of dead min nows gathered off the beach when they landed. Bat Dead Minnows Mr. Hardisty took them first to his cottage at Marshy Point, where he fed and clothed them, afterwards bringing them to Oak Point hotel, and sending the tidings to their friends. Canon Matheson, who is summering here, has taken the survivors in charge and will have them sent on to Portage la Prairie as soon as they are suffi cietly rested to make the journey. Mr. Martin, of Scoton Bay, and Mr. Hackland, of Oak Point, In a launch, and J. G. Watson, of the Bank of Mont real, Brandon, in a sailboat are still searching the lake, not knowing that the men have been rescued.
