Answer 10 5! 'pulilS'cEditor URnnm:When I was a young man in New York, Dr. Jones advertised, for an office bov, directing applicant to apply at his office on the following day at 9 a. m. At the appointed time his office was filled with applicant:*. The doctor told the boys the following stow: A farmer saw a crow on theroof'of his barn. He get his gun and fired at the crow and set the roof of his barn on fire, that set fire to his hay, which was burned together with his' horses, chickens and cows andcaused much other damage which heenumerated in detail, and then asked the boys one at a time what they thought of the transaction. A variety of opinions was the result. One boy asked how much the barn cost. Another how much were the horses worth? How much was the hay worth? How many chickens were burned? etc. The'last boy he interrogated was a small unprepossessing little fellow who meekly looked up in the doctor’s face and said, “did the old farmer hit the crow?” Oh! That was the point. Did the farmer hit the crow. The doctor hired that boy. \ The article in Friday’s Recoup signed Republican made me think of this story, lie publican toils us what a wonderful man Dr. Hornor is and what.big-hearted generous men the railroad owners are, and the wa to make the pot l^oil and live so a good old age, surrounded by luxury and a loving family—is by being a good Republican.I don’t see what all that stuff has to do with the killing of Mr. Chevalier. This beating around the bush makes me tired. The question is: Did Mr. Chivalier get killed? If so did our countv coroner investigate the matter and find out who was responsible for the killing. If not, why not? If Mr. Chivalier had been killed by some poor working man there would have been an investigation. Is there one kind of law for the poor man and another for the railroad companies who have passes to distribute? - If a Republican coroner refused to do his official duty, why does not our Democratic county attorney do his duly in the matter? I f they both refuse toact, our Republican mayor and city attorney have a duty to perform. If they refuse to act it will be evident that the whole bunch of officials belong to the railroad companies. Itwill then be in order to call a public meeting in the court house and let the sovereign people politely invite these their public servants j to step down and out of the offices they have so flagrantly disgraced, and then appoint a committee of our citizens to investigate the killing of Mr. Chevalier. One of our most worthy citizens has been killed. Some one is responsible for it. Who it is, that is the question. If the reasons given by Republican for Co: oner Horner's action in the killing of Mr. Chevalier are the best that can be given, the Coroner’s action is indefensible. If the Doctor authorizes the defense, his work certainly needs repairs. If ho does not authorize it, he may well exclaim: The Lord deliver me from my friends.J. E.
