— Mr. John Dixon (commonly called , 1 ';ither Dixon,) the fouuder of the city o! Dixon, ill., and one of the oldest pioneers of the west who were living on the Cen* 1 Unuiul Fourth of July, died at that place ' Thursday morning, aged y2 years, lie ! wax a native of Westchester county. N. V., ! and came to Illinois in lv2o. In 1830 he -1 settled with his latuily at the point where the city of Dixon now stands, establishing 1 lt;there what was theu called Dixon’s Ferry, i uri llock river. He made the original plat of what is now the city of Dixon in 1835. : lie was a remarkable man in other respects than his longevity. He was a strictly moral and religious man, and of unusual practical sense. He was held inaffectionate veneration by all who knewhim, and the news of his death will he received with sorrow by all the people of the Hock river valley.
