Salem, Iowa, July 5.—(Regular Cor respondence.)—A large delegation from Salem attended the celebration at Hillsboro; several picnics were al so entered on Little Cede. Leorin Rhode and wife, of Mooar, are visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Knight. Levi Frazier and wife spent Sunday in Houghton, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pickard. The funeral of Mrs. Cynthia Wei mer was held at the M. E. church on last Friday. Mrs. Weimer has been a resident of Salem for a number of years. On account of ill health she recently went west to live with her son, M. D. K. Weimer, where she died. The remains were accompanied to Sa lem by Mrs. M. D. K. Weimer. Her other son, Frank Weimer, of St. Louis, also attended the funeral. Miss Burket, of Mt. Pleasant, isvi ting her friend, Miss Ethel Lammie, north of town. Mrs. A. C. Pidgeon was called to Kansas City last Wednesday by the sudden death of her sister, Mrs. A.S. Craig. Mrs. Craig has visited here a number of times and is quite well known. Miss Nellie Holland, of Mt. Hamill, spent last week with Miss Bertha Les ter. Misses Annie Packer, Maude Collatt, Laura Cammack and Kate Matthews are attending the National Education al association at Boston. They will be gone two weeks. Dr. Frank Wilmeth, of Lincoln, Ne braska, will spend a few days of this week with his brother, E. A. Wilmeth. He is en route home from a medical convention in the east. Miss Dora Wilmeth will accompany him to Lin coln to resume her duties as a trained nurse. Quite a number from Salem attend ed the funeral of John Spray at Hills boro Sunday afternoon. Mr. Spray is the brother of Samuel Spray, who lives east of Salem, and has many friends who mourn his departure. Mr. Sylvanus Bonnell has recently purchased a new auto. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Collins are en joying a visit from their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, of Nauvoo, Il. Fred Shelledy is adding a new porch to his residence, which helps the ap pearance very much.
