Jan Meares, a Baylor University senior, recently was elected to serve as interim president of the state organization of the Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) Miss Meares will assume the duties of the former state president. Jane Adams, also a Baylor student. The interim president will serve until August, when regular statewide elections will be held at the state convention in San Antonio SCEC is the student branch of the International Council for Exceptional Children, an organization for professional persons interested in the special education of all exceptional children, both gifted and retarded Dr. Ralph M. Hausman, assistant professor of education at Baylor, is the faculty sponsor for the state organization There are 11 SCEC chapters in the state. Hausman said Baylor's chapter was organized two years ago and currently enrolls about 50 members. An elementary education major, Miss Meares is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland K. Meares of 3445 Northwood in Plano. She is a 1970 graduate of Thomas Jef ferson High School in Dallas, and she attended North Texas State University in Denton for a year before transferring to Baylor In Waco, she is a member of Highland Baptist Church
