Wide Operations Of Political Racket DisclosedoNational Protestant League for Civic Welfare Proved a Fake.New York (WNS)—A political racket with an anti-Semitic twist was exposed here when it was disclosed that Kdw8rd James Smythe,executive secretary of an organization calling itself the National Protestant League for Civic Welfare, was engaged in an attempt to “sell” a number of potential candidates for the Republican presidential nomination in 1936 the idea that they can reach the White House with an anti-Jewish plank. Operating from one of those public offices where one can rent a corner complete with telephone and mailing service for a few dollars a month, Smythe launched an extensive mail campaign in which he hts employed the names (without their consent or knowledge) of Governor Harold Hoffman of New Jersey, U.
