Fa—Ing of an Old Oitiaan.Mr. Rolla Spelman, an old and highly esteemed citizen of Kellogg township, died at his home four miles east of Newton, on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 86th, having passed his eightieth birthday last February. Mr. Spellman moved from Licking county, Ohio, to Towa in 1858 and the following year came to Jasper county, purchasing the farm on which he made his home until his death. His wife, a step-sister of Recorder Fred A.- Eaton, died about eight years ago. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Lucy Rasp of Newburg and Misses Ella and Gertrude Spelman remaining at ho'me. Mr. 9pelman was a kind father, an obliging neighbor and a good citizen.The funeral was held at the residence, Thursday, conducted by Rev. Scull of the Protestant Methodist church, and the remains were laid to rest beside those of his companion in the Slagle cemetery.
