J. H, Cornish presiding as chairman pro tern. After the confirmation of the minutes of the preceding meeting. Messrs. W. O. Cnmmnck and John Mcltny were elected to membership. Permit me to say that ho one cherishes a stronger desire than I do to pro-,mote the prosperity of our Iowa, Few indeed have more cause to be thankful for the curative influences of its climate than myself. It is now more than thirty years ago, that during a residence here of several years my constitution, for some time previously, very much shattered by pulmonary disorders, Wits reconstructed and renovated so that I have ever since enjoyed as large a measure of health ns innsl of my compeers in age. It. is not therefore from any lack of interest in the objects of our nlt;Hociation that. I beg leave to resign this office, but just the reverse. It is because I have not at my command tho requisite time, activity and strength to not as chairman of your Executive Committee that. I feel constrained to decline an olfico, the duties of which I am not able to discharge, f regret being absent from the meeting at which the election of officers took place, as I would then have prevented in,v iroiii in at ion for the office of President and thus saved the trouble, I am now obliged to impose of filling the vacancy created by my resignation. Finley was accepted and the committee on nominations wits instructed to report the name of a candidate for the Presidency at the next meeting.The committee on hy-laws reported through tlBclmirman, Mr. R. S. Agncw, and the report having been accepted the association proceeded to its discussion, after which the by-laws were adopted in the form hereto annexed,.The Executive committee made a report containing a recommendation that a committee be appointed to sc cure the replacement of certain hcnohes which had been erected in the streets for the accommodation of the public and surreptitiously removed to private residences; a committee to confer with the intemlant in reference to the filling of the ditch in railroad avenue, and a committee to solicil.e applications for membership. The reprrt was adopted and the chair appointed the following gentlemen to serve tn the first committee, Messrs. Me Ray, Smith and Ott; second committee, Itev Mr. Cornish and Mr. Cnmmack; Inst committee, Messrs. Aldrich. Ashley and Tongue, The association then adjourned to meet next Wednesday night at Highland Park Hotel.The following were adopted as the bylaws of the association.
