Thelma Burke; former Bessemer Hotel cookThelma J. Newton Shivley Burke, 57, of 1006 E. Poland Ave., Bessemer, died at 5:30 a.m. July 2, 1994, in Jameson Memorial Hospital.She was born Oct. 8, 1936, in New Castle to Willis H. and Clara Mariacher Newton Sr.She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, George F. Shivley, who died July 15,1975. She is survived by her former husband, Bernard Burke of Virginia Beach, Va.Mrs. Burke is a former cook at the Bessemer Hotel.Also surviving are a son, Gary Shivley of Bessemer; five daughters, Diane Joynson, Mrs. Kevin (Donna) Conner and Mrs. Clark (Judy) Searfoss, all of Bessemer, Mrs. Louis (Mary Ann) Gagliano of Mt. Jackson and Brenda Shivley of New Castle; five sisters, Loretta Dottle, Mrs. Ray (Linda) Burke, Mrs. EileenLambros, Mrs. Gary (Joann) Richards and Lillian Newton, all of New Castle; two brothers, Richard Newton, serving in the U.S. Navy, and Harold Newton of ' New Castle; two stepsons, ! Dwight Burke of Virginia and William Burke, serving in the 1 U.S. Marine Corps; two step- 1 daughters, Italia Burke and Melissa Burke, both of Illinois; and 1 11 grandchildren.Also preceding her in death were a son, Jack E. Shivley; a brother, Willis Newton Jr.; and an infant sister, Dorothy Newton.Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Ed I and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home, ( 941 S. Mill St. A blessing service r will be conducted at the funeral ] home 10 a.m. Wednesday by the ( Rev. John Petrarulo, pastor of ] St. Vitus Church. Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
