Rodney Max Nichols, AC-2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Nichols of Morn ing Sun, lost his life by drowning while swimming in the Colorado river near Vincent Air Force Base at 2 p. m., Saturday, June 29. The 19- year-old Morning Sun youth had been stationed at the Yuma, Arizona base since January of 1956. The body was recovered early Sun day morning by service personnel dragging the stream. Funeral servic ed were held on the base Monday. Rodney was the son of Opal Baird Nichols and Grant §. Nichols of Morn ing Sun. He was born September 20, 1937. He graduated from Morning Sun high school with the class of 1955. Surviving are the parents, four brothers and two sisters: Albert Nich ols, Fort Riley, Kansas; Sam, Ron ald and David at home; Dorothy and Mary at home; two step brothers, El wood Marshall, Fr. Madison and Paul Marshall, Morning Sun; one step sister, Mrs. Marcella Bryant, Morn ing Sun. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Baird and Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Nichols. The body will arrive at the Pierce funeral home here Wednesay under the escort of Rodney’s uncle, Max Baird, Ch. Bos’n., U. S. N. Funeral services will be held Saturday after noon, July 6 at 2 o’clock in the Morn ing Sun’ Methodist church. Final rites: will be in charge of the Rev. C. R. Thome, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. RODNEY MAX NICHOLS
