ORCA CAUSE WORTH HELPIKOl et Eterjbody Contribute Their Mite Towards a Library buildingAn oasis in the center of town that is attracting the attention of every visitor is the enclosed park at the depot. It is a sight to cheer the eye, and an addition to the town of inestimab'e value. A heavy stand of grass is kept watered and mowed until it looks as smooth as velvet, and the trees set out in the spring are making rapid and vigorous growth. The presence of this beauty spot where it shows off to the best advantage is due to the energy and forethought of the ladies of the Civic League. Through their influence the land was secured from the railroad for park purposes. With money raised through the efforts of the league the park was fenced, improvements made and the plot kept up. This preparation of the park was the first steps taken in the ultimate object of building a library. Handsome surroundings were first to be prepared as a setting for the structure that was to follow. The movement is now on foot to raise funds for the con-j! ' st ruction of that building. Plans are being designed lor a library such as will be a credit to the town. The building is to be used primarily for library purposes, but is to be so constructed that it can be thrown into a reception hall, and used for the entertainment of bodies of citizens meeting in a social way, or for the reception of visitors. At present the town is entirely destitute of a room adapted lor such meetings, and for that purpose it will be found a very great convenience. The one aim is to raise the necessary fund to put up a creditable building and the campaign is on. It is believed that the public will respond generously to the following appeal handed in by the members of the library board.“The members of the library board ol the Civic League, having created a building fund, are through the medium of the Gazette giving the citizens and all people who are interested in Oroville beautiful an opportunity of aiding in the erection of a suitable building in the park made green and lovely by the unwavering energy and loving thought of the Civic League for Oroville, and her present and future generations, work so far made possible by the aid and encouragement of the public, that has manifested interest in every thing the Civic League does toward stimulating the growth and beautifying the town.”Contributions can be handed in to this office, in person or by mail, in any sums contributors feel able to give, and the receipt will be acknowledged and the list of doners will be published from week to week.
