E. W. Pickett Sporting Editor. Before the largest crowd of baseball fans ever assembled at Lund’s Lake Park, the Liberty team defeated the St. Louis Stars by a score of 8 to 2. All of the girls played a good game, especially Miss Genla Robertson; she plays first base like an old veteran, and a team composed of such players as she is, would form a combination that would be hard to beat. Miss May St. Leon pitched a nice game, but toward the latter part of the game she weak ened, and the boys batted the ball all over the field. The boys played the real article of baseball—they fielded fine, not an error being charged against them, and they also did some good batting. The game was thoroughly enjoyed by the large crowd present— there being 871 paid admissions to the grounds. The line up of the two teams was: Liberty. St. Louis Stars. Patton edb. Umpire—Mr. Wilhelm Zeiss. The Dayton and Liberty third teams crossed bats at Liberty, and at the end of the game the score stood 15 to 3 in favor of the Dayton team.The bat teries were: Dayton—Nolen and Cantrell.
