THE EXTENSION OF THIRD STREET.Our readers have beou kept pretty well posted respecting this matter. A jury has decided in favor of the line running through the Penfield farm. The road as contemplated will take about 3£ aorea of the Penfield property. At a meeting held before the commissioners, experts on one side fixed the value of the property to bo taken at about $10,000 per acre. Another meeting was held at the Town Clerks office, Thursday afternoon, Mr. N, A. Lawlor appearing for Mr. Penfield and Mr. P. L. McClellan for the Town.At this session some eleven witnesses, or experts, were examined, viz., Messrs Rich. Duncombe, Ferd Holm, John Harges, A.F. Gescheidt, Stephen Toepfer, I. A. Farrington, John Russell, Fenton, Ed. L. Phipps and J, Frank Wright. Most of these gentlemen have long resided in the town, bought and sold real estate, and claimed to be perfectly familiar with the lay of the Penfield property and its value. The values that they severally affixed were from $1,500 to $2,500 per acre, the average determined being about $2,000 per acre.As the case is on trial we may possibly have no right, in equity, to prejudice the concensus of public opinion.Mr. Lawlor excepted the testimony of most of the Witnesses on the ground that they were not experts, and also, in other cases, that their testimony was irrelevant and had no bearing on the question at issue. The trial will doubtless be continued for some time longer. The question at issue is certainly very important and should not be too hastily determined. SEVENTH AVENUE OPENING.The Commissioners in above matter,Messrs. S. V. Pell, W, H. Sparks andNathaniel Valentine, met Wednesday aud considered tho valuation of land to be taken, Mr. Andrew George, the •owner, could not fix a positive value on the land to be taken, but thought it to be worth $1,000. He was frank enough to admit that if the road went through he would not take leBs thau. $1,000 per village lot of one quarter acre, for it. Mr. George H. Cameron, who is well acquainted with the property, thought the land to be taken was worth at the rate of $2,500 per acre now. and if the road is put through the property will be considerably enhanced in value.
