FurloughsThe Stars and Stripes:“The 34th Engineer Combat battalion claims the dubious honor of being one of the oldest, if not the oldest, outfit in service in the Pacific. The older menin the group have 44 months'continuous service overseas and 47 or more total months’ service without a furlough or leave ofany nature,“At our present location men from other units have been sent home on rotation with less time and combat experience than our outfit—another blow to morale, if any at all is present—and rotation was recently rescinded.“A possible reason for our being unnoticed is that we’ve been attached to a number of different divisions and commands. Isthere a way we can bring our cose to the proper authorities?”(Name Withheld)
