Blanche Calloway Jailed In Yazoo CityYAZOO CITY, Miss. (C)—Dynamic Blanche Calloway, America's most outstanding colored woman orchestra leader, and sisterof the celebrated Cab Callowayof Hi-De-Ho fame, was jailed here last week when she went into a rest room of a service station sell-* h*- i , j v.'' Ej SHing Shell oil products which wadnot designated “white or “colored”. Miss Calloway, traveling in a de luxe coach with her band, was haled before the Mayor and fined $7.50 for disturbing the peace. Miss Calloway was forcedto remain in jail for several hours. Norman Pindor, husband of thefemenine maestro, failing to understand questions asked by officers, asked, “What did you say? and was beat over the head with the butt of a pistol. Pinder wararrested with his wife and Mswife’s companion, Mrs. Earl Baker. The white Chamber of Commerce and several outstanding colored citizens attempted to intervene in behalf of the defendants, but tono avail.
