Commissions Academician to Paint Cardinal’s Portrait New York.—Sir John Lavery, noted British academician, has been commissioned by Clarence Mackay to paint the portrait of Hig Eminence, Patrick Cardinal Hayes. The painting, when fin ished, is to be presented by Mr. Mackay to the New York Chap ter of the Knights of Columbus and is to be hung in the lounge of the $4,000,000 club hotel re recently opened by the chapter in New York. It is probable that the prelate will be painted wear ing the ecclesiastical vestments of his office and that the por trait will be made in the arch iepiscopal residence here. Sir John Lavery, whose work is well known in this country, claims the distinction of hav ing his paintings in thirty eight museums and public gal leries in capital cities through out the world. He is reputed to have painted the portraits, of more American millionaires than any other artist-
