SIOUX, CHIEFS WHO TOOK PART TERRIBLE CUSTER IN THE MASSACRE MEET IN BRANDON AFTER 32, YEARS. vidal An old-timers’ gathering took place this morning at the C.P.R. tracks on the arrival of ‘the circus train, and the joyous antics of those old friends created a scene seldom seen anywhere in the world. With the circus are three Sioux Indian chiefs who took part in the Custer massacre in the year 1876, and who are still residents of Uncle Sam. Following the massa cre a few members of Setting Bull's band escaped across the border into Canada, where they have remained from that time, not daring to go back to the States. In some unaccountable manner, these, now Canadian Indians, learned of the visit of the old Ameri can chiefs, and were in the city bright and early this morning from the Oak Lake reserve, to give their old-time comrades a royal welcome. The meet ing was mutually pleasant if one could judge from the smiles, gestures and rapid rate of conversation. The Indi ans adjourned with the balance of the circus to the west end of the city, where the circus authorities gave per mission to the Indian chiefs in their employ to Invite their old comrades to dinner, and no less than nineteen of the Canadian Indians enjoyed the hos pitality. There were four old chiefs from the Oak Lake reserve who went through the Custer massacre and lat er escaped Into Canada.
