Ftq i,arruped Him.y Ever since the Gas City Pottery has y been in existence, they have beeu great-e ly annoyed by (livers persons stealing h crockery, breaking ware, sky lights, etc.- The other day Mr. Cox found three or i four boys monkeying around the works s and prying into things where they had y no business. He told them to get out, l- when the larger boy in the crowd re-e fused to go and began applying viie k epithets to Mr. Cox, who happened to 11! have a switch in his hand, which he d proceeded to use upon the boy. He gave him two or three pretty good y lashes and the boy stood not on the or* i r. der of going but got, and got quickly, j le j The switch proved a persuader of the first water. But that did not end it.iis The boy went home and told his father j n that he had been catching frogs, near j n I the pottery, but not on the pottery ,n premises, when Cox came out and gave him the above whipping. The father j a believing the boy’s story swore out a j warrant for Cox’s arrest. Mr. Cox up* peared before the Mayor, pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined one cent j ^ and costs.Mr. Cox had been persuaded by the officials on one or two occasions not to prosecute persons caught at petty thievery at the works, hence the Mayor’s leniency.
