J. R, Mark ley, the well-known democratic politician, returned last week from Mo.ilana on a brief visit to his family, He will probably remain until the first of next week- Mr. Mark ley has been spending the winter in Butte, where he savs business is lively and every one appears prosperous. In and around Butte, the principal industry is that of mining, which furnishes employment to a vast ariuy of men at good wages. Since leaving here a year ago Mr Mark ley has become considerable of a football crank, having at this time in his employ three members of the Butte football team, among whom are Benson, who coached Kugene last year, andLasswcll, formerly with the Multnomah s. The team has been playing for several months and intend keeping in training until fall, when they will again meet the Reliance Club, which they expect to defeat- Mr. Mark ley says they have strengthened the Butte team very materially since last season, and with the splendid coaching they are receiving, there is every reason to believe that the coast championship for 1896 will go to the Butte team.j .. :_________j a a *____ _ 1 _
