Norfolk Affairs.James L. Belote, Esq: the recently elected lay or of Norfolk, was qualified on Monday ist and as entered upon the discharge of his uties. From the Portsmouth Old Dominion f the 30th ult. we take the following account f the organizat ion of the City Council :OnY of Norfolk, June 20th 1864.1. This bein^ the day appointed by law for he first meeting of the Council, after its elec-ion on Friday, 24th inst., the Commissioners ppointed by the Court to superintend the lection in the several wards for Councilmenaid city officers, returned a certificate of the lersons elected. .2. Wm. T. Harrison, was called to the chair )y motion of A. L. Hill.3. The Register having read the certificate, iroceeded to call the roll,* and the members uiswering to their names, were sworn into iffice by the Mayor.4. The Register then read the certificate of he Commissioners as to the election of other )fficers.5. On motion of Mr. Hill, the Register was lireeled to furnish the officers with usual certificates of election.6. The Council then proceeded to the elec-:ion of city officers in the following order, and ivith the following result:7. Wm. B. Burford, Keeper of City Hall ind messenger; Geo. A. Barrora, Weigher it Platform Scales; J. Campbell, Weigher \Iarket calcs.8. The election of the Board of Health, Post Wardens and Harbor Masters, was postponed for the present.Messrs. Wm. Roberts, E. Guy- and Jno. W. Gregory, were appointed Measurers of Grain, c.The election of City Watchmen was also postponed for the present.The Council then proceeded to ballot for sleveti members lo constitute the Scdect Council, with the following result:A. L. Hill, P. H. Whitehurst, Ryland Capps, Thos. Fatherly, Allen Howard, C. F. Greenwood, James Simmons, F. Zantzlnger, John W. Belote. J. H. Borum and James Ryan.C'dy of Norfolk, to-ioit: ?At a meeting of the Common Council, June' Di’3th : Present—Wm. T. Harrison, E. Pendle-;on, Wm. R. Jones, W. W. Wing, J. T.Caniels, Wilson Capps, Wm. H. Turner, Clemett Hill, L. Salusbury, and Charles H. Whitehurst.On motion of Mr. Turner, Mr. Wing was •ailed to the chair.The Council then proceeded to organize bydecting iWm. T. Harrison, Esq., President.Wm. H. Turner, Vice President, ilr. Daniel moved that the Inspector of streets be authorized to employ four sweepers, and two horses and carts, with their 1 rivers, for the present, which was carried. Ydjourn d.John Ridley, Register. Jas. L. Belote being present, declined to jualify, he being elected Mayor.
