Bernice HenricnBernice Henrich, 82, of Le Mars, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.Bernice L. Ommen was born on the family farmwest of Craig, the daughter ofJohnandFreda(Popken) Ommen. Bernice attended country school near Craig. She was united in marriage to Gerald Henrich on April 21, 1942, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron The couple farmed south of Akron, until retiring to Akron in 1979.Bernice and Gerald later moved to Le Mars to be closer to their children. This past April, the couple celebrated 60 years of marriage.Bernice was an active member of her church and had participated and held positions in Catholic Daughters, DCCW, and St. Patrick’s League. She continued to be active in the Catholic Daughter’s and St. Joseph Parish upon their move to Le Mars.Bernice was well known for her cooking, baking, and cake decorating skills and loved to share her talents through family, friends, and parish work.Survivors include her husband, Gerald Henrich of Le Mars; six children, Mary and Norman Jewelll of Blue Eye, Mo., Dan and Mary Henrich of Colonial Heights, Va., Tim Henrich of Denver, Colo., Anita and Dan Vasto of Adel, Reed and Vicki Henrich of Le Mars, and Rochelle and Curt Niehus of Le Mars; a siszter, Vera Pasewalk of Akron; three brothers, Ervin and Kay Ommen of Akron, Melvin “Mick” and Jalaine Ommen of Henrv,S.D., and Donnie Ommen of Utah; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by a son, Myllin and a brother, Henry Ommen.Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Andrew Hoffmann officiating. Interment will be 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters rosary and a 7 p.m. Scriptural wake ser-vice Sunday evening at the funeral home.Casketbearers were be Dan Henrich, Tim Henrich, Reed Henrich, Norman Jewell, Dan Vasto, and Curt Niehus.David J. KunkelDavid J. Kunkel, 65, of rural Hinton, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, in a motorcycle accident.David Joseph Kunkel was born June 15,1937, in Le Mars, the son of J.A. and Mary (Ruppert)Kunkel. He grew up on a farm southeast of Le Mars and received his education atGehlen Catholic Schools.He married DeAnn Sitzmann Sept. 3,1960, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church-Neptune. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for many years in Lincoln Township.
