One of the most striking signs of progress in downtown Nava sota is the Security State Bank. The modern appearance of its marble and limestone front wall bespeaks the character of the bank itself. With the most mod modern fixtures throughout and the most advanced in office equipment the bank is well able to maintain with efficiency the volume of its work. The Se curity State Bank was origin ally organized in November 1927 at Plantersville, Texas with a capital stock of $17,500.00. Then, as presently, under the capable leadership of its directors and president, it grew in rapid strides until in 1946 the capital was raised to $50,000.00 with certi fied surplus of $12,500.00 and, by the authority of the State Banking Commission, the bank was moved to Navasota, Texas. It started business in Navasota with the above and deposits amounting to approximately $425,000.00. At the close of busi ness on December 31, 1949 its deposits amounted to $1,942, 263.60. Besides the usual sav ings and checking departments the bank has available for its patrons a most modern system of safety deposit boxes. The vault of the Security State Bank houses 282 safety deposit boxes, practically all of which are rented at the present time. The vault is large enough for the installation of additional boxes as the needs arises. The walls to this vault are 18 inches thick and are made of concrete and steel. In fact, the wall con tains 10,000 pounds of steel rods. The door to the vault contains the latest in time lock equip ment and is as near burglar proof as any bank door made. It was purchased from the Mos ler Safe Lock Company for ap proximately $4,000. The door is solid steel 7 inches thick. Officers of the Security State Bank are A. W. Greenwood, pres ident; Dr. S. D.
