size of town* The fine, modem store of today, extending from Main street to.alley, and with a wood-paneled basement store, represents a great advance from the dark stores of early times, when stocks were in bins or on shelves.The present building was constructed about i the turn of the Century, and also house the S W Store. The first occupant of the present j Hardware site was a drug store operated a few j years by Bert Farrand.Donlon Clary then rented the building for a hardware store. They were operating it when the great dynamite explosion occurred in 1909. Many centennial visitors have seen pictures depicting the immense damage done by that explo-lon of dynamite stored in a building about where I the present cement incinerator stands behind our store.Then followed Mr. Sargeant; Wm. Triplett,about 1911; Otto Ebert about 1915, followed by H. D. Sietsema.About 1918 A. K. Pingeno and R. C. Hunt formed a partnership called the “Fredericksburg Hardware company.” Hunt later sold out to J. W. Keeling.Edwin Klotz, the present owner, purchased the interest of K.K. Pingeno in 1927. He and Keeling ran the store together until Keeling sold out to Stanley Koerth in December, 1934, due to ill health.Koerth and Klotz operated the store until Klotz bought the interest of Koerth in April, 1947.Edwin Klotz has continued as owner since that time. In 1947 his son, Paul, started working and at the present time Edwin is the owner and Paul is the manager. I After finishing two years of college work, Paul joined his father fj in the store in 1947 and has been with him ever since with the excep-S tion of two years in the Army.
