John and Houston Clark “We made 20 bushels of barley where we made 50 last year,” said John Clark of Light’s Ranch, “I and my brother, Houston, farm to gether and are now threshing. The vats promise to make about 25 bushels to the acre. We have been selecting and working with our strain of oats for 20 years to get a real strain of winter oats and we have improved our oats until they are better than any we have ever had. We rouged and until we have almost an absolute uniform selec tion of red oats. “Another crop that we have been working on is storm proof cotton. The old Texas storm proof was the best cotton we ever had but we never had it pure. We began some years ago with one stalk of real storm proof cotton and have select ed seed and by planting in the garden and by working it carefully managed to get 15 acres of real storm proof cotton planted. This cotton has made better than any we have planted all along and we hope soon to have enough seed to plant our whole crop in this seed. In fact, we will have enough seed next year to plant all we want if nothing happens to us.”
