ATLANTIC CITY—Young Judaea, the national organization of Zionist youth, in the nineteenth annual con vention here, at Esplanade hotel, voted to adopt a radical change in the activi ties of the movement by forming a series of local and ‘state boards of di rectors in communities throughout the country, and these boards to be co ordinated into a national board to guide the work of the organization. This deviation from previous policy was adopted at the final session of the convention, to facilitate the expansion of educational work among the youth and to advance the ideals sponsored by Young Judaea. By creating a series of boards of directors to share in the responsibility in the work of Young Judaea, the volunteer leaders in charge of the work except to be relieved of many duties outside of the realm of education and to be able to devote themselves to the advancement of the cultural work of the organization. Officers elected by the convention for the ensuing year to carry out the new policy of the organization are: Hon. Nathan Straus, Honorary Chairman National Board of Trustees; Dr. De Sola Pool, Associate Chairman; Samuel J. Borowsky, Chairman of National Executive Committee; David Tannen baum, Chairman National Administra tive Committee; Sylvan H. Kohn, vice chairman; Theodore R. Racoosin, Treasurer. The following are mem bers of the administrative committee: Rabbi Max Arzt, D. Leonard Cohen, Rabbi Simon Greenberg, Rabbi Leon Lang, Isidore Levinson, Emanuel Neu mann, William Raphael, I. Jerome Riker, David Schneeberg and Abraham Tannenbaum. The following are members of the National Executive Committee: Miss Freda Kahn of Rochester, Miss Rachel Savage of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Libby Braverman of Cleveland, Ben Edidin of Chicago, Harry Grossman and Miss Nirenstein of Connecticut, Miss Libby Jacobson and Dr. Anna Mintz of Boston, Dr. Reis of St. Louis, Miss Dinah Rausen and E. E. Lisitsky of the Southern Interstate Region, Dr. Isaac Schour of Denver, Miss Leah Bloom of Chester, Calif., Sidney I. Esterson of Baltimore, Nathan Witkin, Miss Alice Cohn and Miss Freda Schribner of New Jersey, J. Trachten berg of Cincinnati, Miss Victoria Beck, Miss Sophie Goldberg and Miss Bertha Grossman of Philadelphia, Sol Levin of Detroit and the following New Yorkers: Dr. Joshua H. Neumann, A. M. Bogrowitz, Joseph Deitch, Miss Naomi Flax, Benjamin Lasser, Daniel Rosenberg, Miss Sadie Yormark and Miss Jessie Weiss. Officers of the convention were Dr. Pool, Honorary Chairman; Mr. Borow sky, Chairman; Sylvan Kohn and David Tannenbaum, vice-chairman. Among the most important decisions of the convention was for a commission of Young Judaea leaders to make a study of conditions in Palestine with a view of learning the best means of co-operation between the Jewish youth of America and Palestine. The con vention decided by unanimous vote to continue to support the Boy Scout movement in Palestine, and to leave it to the commission, to be headed by Ben Edidin of Chicago, to decide on other means of co-operation. One of the outstanding features of the convention was the national orator ical contest sponsored by Young Judaea. Following a series of local inter-club, state and regional confer ences, the following twelve national contestants represented every region in the country at the final contest: Charles Baltin of New Brunswick, N. J.; Jake Baron of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Miss Libbie Block of Denver, Colo.; Miss Esther David of New York City, Leon 8. Elseberg of Baltimore, Sidney, H. Greenberg of Syracuse, N. Y.; Al fred Katz of Cincinnati, Miss Sara Michalson of Hartford, Conn.; Charles Saltzman of Chicago, Miss Ruth Stroum of Boston, Miss Gertrude Weis berg of Dunmore, Pa., and Miss Judith Wolfert of Brooklyn, N. Y. Other discussions during the con vention included one on “National Con tests, Awards and Merit System” by Ben Edidin of Chicago. A symposium on “Young Judaea and Jewish Educa tion in America was participated in by Sylvan Kohn of Newark and Maurice Samuel of New York, and interesting communications on the subject were read from Professor Mordecai Kaplan and Dr. I. B. Berkson.
