f *The trouble started between a whitefarmer named McDonnell and a negro named Jim Brady. The latter was armed with a pistol and making vio-lent threats. When McDonnell attempted to disarm him a negro named Jones interfered and struck McDonnell with a heavy scantling, rendering him unconscious. About twenty-five white men were on the scene, but both negroes managed to get away.A posse was immediately formed and started in pursuit. Shortly after dark, while one of the searching parties was riding along the public road, fire was opened on them by the fugitives, and Luther Buckley, a t young farmer, was struck by several p bullets, falling dead from hia horse. The posse gave immediate pursuit andjp the negro Jones was captured and shot to death. Later his brother and a brother of the negro Jim Brady who had aided the principal offenders in escaping, were caught on a farm about eight miles from Georgetown, Copiah county.
