UNEASINESS OWING TO THE NON APPEARANCE OF ISLANDERS. The Price of Bay on the Kingston Market ~ ‘Tw Stagéa to Cross Over to Cape Vin crnt—A Prosperous Season For 4 Cheese Factory—The Ofhers on One Road, Worrs Istasxp, Jan. 29.—The great’ storm has made the roads almost impase able in places and heavily loaded the ice. Between late crossing and stormy wea ther islanders are likely to be pressed for time this winter in which to move what produce they have to dispose of. Dr. Spankie is kept pretty busy those whee any experienced a stormy passage 5 Sa turday in returning from the city. Some uneasiness was caused up the front by the non-appearance by Sunday of a resi dent and his wife who were reported to have left the city the previous afternoon. Later developements cleared up the mys tery and relieved anxious friends, Michael Healy, son of David eene is home on a visit from Buffalo, N.Y. Hay from here is sold for from $5 to $8 on the Kingston market. John Bullis is about retiring,it is said, from the hay business hereabouts. He is absent now on a visit to the west. George Greenwood, bailiff and game warden for this district, is seriously ill. The C.M.B.A. have announced their an nual assembly for the evening of Feb. th. He thinks nothing of drawing a cord of green wood with her. At the council meeting, last Monday, Richard Moore was appointed assessor, F. or and W. Some were disappointed that Reeve Mc Rae failed to secure the wardenship, and some were not. P. Lyons got his team in the‘ice near Garden Island last week. They were got out with difficulty. The population of the village is in creasing. It is said an island woman gave a blind mana pair of *‘s s” for charity lately. A meeting of the Wolfe Island cheese factory association is to be held on the 30th. The past season has been a very prosperous one for the stock holders, and on the whole a satisfac tory one for the patrons, though a few changes might be beneficial. It is said the other roads and concessions are very zealous of the power this year.. Cer tainly ‘the “pike” should be just a little airy with so many of its residents en ying the honors and perquisites of office. It claims both the reeves and assessor, and one of the auditors, ‘and is reaching out for the collectorship, when one is ap pointed. Well, the old road is an old settler and raises some good ‘stock,” but it’s got too “hoggish” many think. Rev. Dibb, of St. Athan's church, Odessa, paid this village a visit lately. Rev. Mr. Edwards, of Brock street. Me thodist church, ably relieved Rev. G. 8. White on Sunday, 20th inst. Droves of cattle and sheep are crossing to King ston daily. Peter Brown and Miss Dee, of Front Road, were united in marriage in the Roman Catholic church by the Rev. T. d. ae on Monday, 21st. The happy couple left for their home with the best wishes of many friends. R. Mosier has succeeded in locating a valu able coal mine on the island, but he says that quite a lot of silver will have to be gone through before reaching the coal. Diphtheria has again revealed it self at the foot of the island where one of Mr. Abbott's family is very low. It was reported that W. G. Woodman's family had also contracted the disease but such is not the case. RBarl McRae, son of John A. McRae, is still confined to his bed with inflammatory rheumatism. Philip Ryan is improving. Ben. Hanlon is in our midst on a short visit from Water town. Our village is being supplied to a city baker who makes his trips tri weekly. Thomas Manders and wife, Perth, paid the island a visit.. Miss Lula Horne called on her friends here. Miss Minnie Keys is visiting at W.G. Wood man's. William Bolton drove a load of the fair sex to Cape Vincent last week and report at a very enjoyable time. Geo. Greenwood is seriously ill. Cloyne Cullings. Ciorus, Jan. 29.—The annual mis sionary meeting of the English church will be held on Wednesday ilight. Grippe has again made its appearance; quite a number are on the sick list Mrs. Flanagan is seriously ill; to-day she is said to be somewhat better, but still in a critical condition. George Deline, releve, attended the meeting of the county council in Kingston last week. Miss Wells has gone on a visit to friends in Newburgh. Miss Tuttle, Kingston, has been appointed to teach in 8.8, No. 2. W. Cummings has pur chased a yaluable horse from EB, Storey. Miss Eliza Guinea has returned after an extended visit with friends in Tweed, Mr. Maund, of Kingston, paid us a fly ing visit last week. Norman Cole has on a contract to supply the village residents with wood. Visitors: Misses M. Barns and BB. Hunt, Tweed, at EB. Kennelly's; G. zonnnas; and Mrs. Hop kins, Erinsville, at D. Craigen's; Mrs. M. A. Mallen, Erinsville, at J. Arm strong’s; Gus Spencer and son, Mount of Tweed, at Wilton Spencer's; Fred. Wickwire at M.A. Wise's; Miss Katie Hunt, Erinsville, is visiting her pa rents, 8S. A. Ripley is enjoying his holi daye very pleasantly in this vicinity.
