McCaw Cablevision Adds Five Programming Services to LineupDennis Lanham, system manager for McCaw Cablevision, has announced his television cable company will add five new services to its basic programming lineup in Sitka. On Monday, three new satellite networks, The Discovery Channel, CNN Headline News and VHl, will be added. Additionally, live network programming from Detroit will be added for 24 hours a day.The Discovery Channel offers nonfiction programming in science, technology, nature, history, travel and human adventure.CNN Headline News is a half-hour, constantly updated news program, part of Turner Broadcasting Systems.VH-1 features music videos aimed at the adult contemporary listening audience. To accommodate the new listings, the taped channel, Channel 4, will be replaced with NBC live from Detroit. MTV and the Nashville Network will be moved. The new lineup will be as follows: Channel 4, NBC-Detroit; Channel 15, ABC-Detroit; Channel 16, blank; Channel 23, MTV; Channel 24, Nashville Network; Channel 25, CNN Headline News; Channel 26, The Discovery Channel; Channel 27, VH-1.Lanham said live network programming is something McCaw subscribers have been requesting for a long time.“Until now, this type of programming and a delivery system was cost prohibitive and not available,” said Lanham. He added that currently, the Detroit stations are the only available networks on the satellites so viewers will have to make adjustments to their time zone. As West Coast stations become available, he said, McCaw Cablevision will replace the East Coast signals.Lanham said the new broadcast stations will provide more than three times the programming than that of the tape channel with no two-week delay, no program interruptions and improved picture quality.McCaw originally planned to add BCTV to its lineup, live from Vancouver, but BCTV has temporarily denied access to the station because of some copyright concerns, said Lanham.
