Titans Squelch DeKalb In Repeat PerformanceBy Walt EwingWesleyan’s mighty Titans whipped Northern Teachers last Tuesday night at Memorial gym 50—41.This was the second time this year that the IIAC champs have been defeated by Wesleyan. Last week Northern was on the short end 47—41.The seven men that showed in Green and White Tuesday night turned in top notch performances. Hard driving individual efforts combined with superb team play made the game one of the best played and mose interesting of the current Wesleyan campaign.Northern was behind 26—20 at half time—the bulldog gameness of the Dekalb boys kept them within close range all through the game. The Titans, however, proved to be the superior in all departments and were never headed.Titan Roll CallJohn Hoffman turned in a fine game. He did some marvelous passing, and rebounded both offensively and on the defence. Four of his light markers were tip-ins.Frank Whitman was a continual threat to the Northerners. Frank tallied nine points besides playing an all around good game.Jim Hershbarger managed eight points, but was bothered by the awkwardness caused by wearing glasses for the first time in a game. (The glasses were kicked around a little while Jim was in there fighting.)Two Ten PointersBig Hank Bennett was his usual self—the spark plug of the team. Hank laid in ten points to tie for high point man.The other ten pointer was diminutive Jerry Bradley. Jerry deserves a lot of credit for being there at the right time as a rebounder and point getter.No better game was played by anyone than by Waterman’s contribution to Wesleyan—Jim Her-old. Jim played an excellent floor game, holding Woods, the Northern flash, to seven points' while he himself was dropping in six.J. C. Moore rounds off the roll call of performers. “Deac” did a good job of engineering Wesleyan’s four minute stall.All in all, the entire Green and White team was great. They played not as individual stars but as good -team men.Phi Gams ElectJack ZwengPhi Gamma Delta fraternity of Illinois Wesleyan university elected new officers during the last week. Jack Zweng was named president of the organization. Other officers are Jim Hershbarger, treasurer; Harry Hakes Jr., recording secretary; Hendry Bennett, corresponding secretary, and Bill Pitts, historian.Friday night six Phi Gams attended a pre-national convention held at the University club in Chicago. Thirty chapters were represented. The national president and national executive secretary were speakers of the evening.The national convention i s scheduled for the last four days of August. Sponsoring the Chicago convention was Kappa graduate alumni chapter.Those attending from the Bloomington group were Jim Hershbarger, Hendry Bennett, Aitkin Riddle, Jin Pearl, keith Wilson and Harry Hakes Jr.Two Games on Titan ScheduleTwo games are on the' docket this weekend. The Titans travel to Naperville Friday night to play the North Central Cardinals. Saturday they will be back in town. Concordia of St. Louis will be here too, and the Titans will tangle with the Preachers at Memorial gym.Wesleyan has a split record with these two—that is from last year’s record book. North Central was a second cousin and went down twice.
