Runaway Cab Strikes First Ward Resident, Crushing Him Against Car; Injuries May Be Fatal. MERRYMAKERS ALARM HORSES Team Climaxes Wild Cash By Collision with Stationary Lock port Street Car, Yesterday. Charivari noises made by a crowd of boys are responsible for an acci dent which may result fatally for Mi lan Stosich, 36, 2300 Collins street. Stosich was struck in the pit of the stomach by the “tongue” of a runa way street hack, as he was about to board 4 Lockport street car at Col ling street and Meeker avenue, about 5:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Carry Bridal Party. The hack was one that was to have taken a bridal party to a photograph er’s shop. The driver, Walter Adelman, left the vehicle near Henderson and Meeker avenues, in the vicinity of where the wedding had taken place. During his absence the horses became frightened by the beating of tin pans and other noises created by a crowd of merrymakers who were celebrating in honor of the marriage and ran west on Meeker avenue. As the rig neared Collins street, the horses turned on to the latter thoroughfare. A car had been stopped at the crossing, to dis charge two passengers. The runaway team, swept close to the coach and be fore Stosich who was standing in the street, had an opportunity to gain the shelter of the vestibule, he was caught by the shaft of the vehicle and press ed against the car. Taken To Hospital. The injured man was carried to the medical room of the Illinois Steel company, where temporary relief was administered. He was then taken to St. Joseph's hospital. Stosich’s condition is said to be ser ious. He, it is stated, sutained internal injuries by the blow from the back “tongue” that will almost to a cer tainty be mortal. He was still alive al though gradually too weaker, at 3:30 o'clock this icroen. Did Not See Stosich. Thomas Thorthwaite, 559 South Chicago street, conductor on the car, involved in the accident stated, in his official report of the affair to the com pany that he had stopped the car to allow two passengers to alight and did not see Stosich until after he had been struck by the shaft and jammed against the vestibule. The car was slightly damaged by the crash and the shaft of the hack was broken.
