Marionville moved into a fir st-place tie with idle Springfield Greenwood in the Midwest Con ference race Friday night with a 77-57 thumping of the host Liberal Bulldogs. In other loop action, Dadeville shaded Golden City, 53-51, Greenfield tripped Jasper, 62-54 and Stockton decked Miller, 64-57. Green wood defeated Aurora, 71-54, in a consolation game of the Nixa Tournament. Liberal kept it close for two quarters, leading 20-18 at the end of the first period before the Comets knotted the score at 36- all at halftime. The Comets led, 53-48, after three stanzas, then put it away with a 24-point out burst in the final eight minutes. Gary Charlton and Gary Fast tallied 20 each for Liberal while Greg McCord and Mark Mc Culley led the balanced Comet scoring effort with 17 apiece. Marionville is 7-0 in loop play and 12-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fell to 1-5 and 3-12. Robert Jackson’s host Wild cats came up with 36 points in the final two stanzas to trip Jasper, which led 30-26 at the in termission. The Wildcats held a 44-38 spread going into the final stanza. David Wilson paced the win ners with 19 points as team mates Daryl Hutchman and Bill Andress chipped in 17 and 12 points, respectively. High for Gary Keeling’s Eagles, now 5-10 overall and 2-5 in league play, as is Greenfield, was Jerry Bunn with 16 counters. Greenfield took the preliminary jayree contest. 44- Ricky Dodson’s 30-footer jum per at the buzzer was the dif ference at Golden City for the visiting Bearcats. The victory upped Dadeville’s loop ledger to 4-2 and their season leg to 13-5. The Eagles dropped to 0-46 and 5-12. Dadeville moved out to an 18- 9 first-period lead, only to see the hosts bounce back in the next two stanzas. The Bearcats were on top, 28-24, at the in termission, but trailed 38-37 going into the final stanza. Dodson led Dadeville with 23 points as Less LaFon tallied 16 for Golden City. The Eagles salvaged the preliminary ‘‘B” game, 33-28. Miller led through the first three stanzas for newly crowned Homecoming Queen Mary Hood, senior, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Hood of Miller. But the Tigers rallied via a 27-point outburst in the final stanza to put the game on ice. Miller led 33-31 at halftime and 49-37 going into the disasterous final quarter. The victory upped Stockton’s loop leg to 5-1. They are 12-5 for the season. Miller fell to 2-5 and 2- 11. Gary Robinson paced the win ners with 23 points as teammate Doug Sunde added 14. Kris Johnson led Miller with 21 as Kelly Spencer chipped in 16. The difference came at the free throw line where Stockton prevailed 16-7 as Miller was called for 13 fouls in the final two frames. In another nonconference game, Bronaugh surprised Lockwood, 51-36. Bronaugh never trailed at Lockwood, en joying quarter leads of 10-4, 20- 18 and 38-32.
