Funeral services ‘for Chester J.Schroeder were held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson with interment in the Highland Cemetery in Churdan. The Rev D. E. Weiss officiated. Music selections were rendered by organist Ruth Trost. Favorite selections were sung by the congregation. Serving as casket bearers were Kenneth Meyers, Ferris Meyer, Merle Hoyle, Eugene, Vogel, Richard Hyland, Robert L. Consier, George Gymer,and Edward Meyer. A short prayer service was held Friday evening from the Brown Funeral Home in Churdan. Chester J. Schroeder, son of John L. and Mary Fredrickson Schroeder, was born July 10, 1893 at Manning, Iowa and departed this life early Thur sday morning, Jan. 18, 1973, at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. He had attained the age of 79 years, six months and eight days. Mr Schroeder spent his early years near Manning, and on Jan. 19, 1916 was united in marriage to Elsie Nulle at Manning. In 1917 they moved to the present home-site north of Churdan. He was engaged in farming until retirement, and continued his residence at his farm home. Mrs Schroeder preceded him in death in 1958. Those left to mourn his passing are three daughters, (Mary Lou) Mrs Robert Phillips of Lohrville, (Ruth) Mrs H. C. Kluver and (Gail) Mrs John Thorn both of Fort Dodge; also one sister, Mrs Agnes Wherry of Jefferson, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Elsie, one son in infancy, also one brother and two half-brothers.
