Royal elk is taken on ReservationA royal elk, collector's hunt-ing permit, and fees for small game were discussed by the executive committee at a January lk meeting. Present were Charlie Vigil, Hubert Velarde, .!. D. Garcia, and Sampson Baltazar.Gerald Vicenti, of the Game and Fish Department, informed the committee that a royal elk had been located on the Reservation These animals tire very scarce and this specimen had 14 points. Mr. Vicenti reported that Tom Bolack was interested in shooting the elk for a collection in Farmington.Discussion followed as to whether this should be done or whether the animal should be killed and turned over to the tribal museum. After discussing funds available the committee voted to have the animal shot under the supervision of Gerald Vicenti, and then turned over to the museum director, Hubert Velarde.Mr. Vicenti also informed the committee that Mr. Bolack had asked for a collector’s hunting permit for one trophy mule deerfrom the Reservation. It was reported that Bolack was interested in. only the head and skin and that the Atomic Flnergv Commission would like to have the carcass for study. They planned to analyze the tissue to see if there were any affects from Project Gas Buggy.The permit was approved by the Committee and the fee set at $150.Discussion on hunting permits and fees for small game followed. Gerald Vicenti was instructed to get the necessary information onC vthis matter and report to the Tribal Council.Sampson Baltazar reported that the ABC TV crews were through filming deer hunt pictures and at that time were filming ice fishing scenes at S*one Lake.Raleigh Tafoya. Chief of Police, requested that Edwin Sandoval be reimbursed in the amount of $45.00 air fare to Laramie, Wyo. Mr. Sandoval made this trip to attend a training session and had paid the fare from his own funds. The reimbursement was okayed by the Committee.
