ON THE GREEN AGAINAFTER THE RAIN (By Dm SM)Bowls mumed on Wednesday night after a week's break, due to the very’ welcome rain which, no doubt, will prove very »eneflclal to the green.A good roll-up of members found the green a little tricky to handle, moat players being either abort of. or over-running the ••kitty.Four social games and three beau of the Singles Championship were played and some excellent games were witnessed, especially in the match between Arthur Martin and Bill Stevenson.Arthur Is a very much improved player and must take full marks for his defeat of Bill, a very worthy opponent In any game of bowls- At one stage BUI had a comfortable lead of 24 to 10 but Arthur, with consistent bowling, staged a whirlwind finish to clinch the match on the 35th end. the final scores being 31-30.The match »*etween Dave Bedford and Vic Desgrand resulted in a very keen tussle, neither player gaining a very big break throughout the whole match. Of the 37 ends ployed Dave won 70 ami VI.- 17. with the result ..f the game favouring Dave by 32-27 Perhaps Vic relaxed a little too much on his recent holiday and become a little out of form. No player «-an afford to «»ff his game with Dave Bedford as his opponent.Basil Tooker and Harold Ram-age did battle In the third singles match. Harold holding just too many guns for 1»1» opponent.The match opened With Basil apparently in a ••wln-all-the-wmy mood, for after seven ends had been played he had gone to a lead of 8-1 and looked to he all set for a good win. Harold had drawn level at 12-all on the 14th end and after leading 19-14 on the 19th maintained his advantage to win the match by 31-24 nfter 30 ends had been played It was whispered ..n the green that Basil had urobeblv strained his 1owUng am strapping ports for his trip to the briny?ROLLING COMMENTSLen O'Brien was noticed rolling them down again after a very lengthy absence from the green.
